Seek & Find

December 22nd

David would often spend time with his Dad playing cards. One of his favourite games was Memory. All the cards would be spread out and face down, the object was to find matching pairs. Taking turns, each would uncover two cards, then turn them back if they were not a pair. David was sharp, remembering where the cards were…

“Did you play this when you were small Dad?”

“Oh yes, we loved this game, all four of us would play – I was better at it then.”

“You can still do it now Dad, you just need to concentrate more – I win!”

It is often said, the best place to hide something is in full view of everybody. We really do not notice the things that are not on our interest level. I couldn’t tell you what position in the league our local football team are. We are all so busy with our own interests and concerns, that taking on more thoughts and ideas is not on our agenda.

If we are honest, we know it’s us that hide the things we don’t want to see; if we can’t see it, then it doesn’t exist.

Yet Christ is the most amazing discovery we will ever make. He fills the emptiness within us bringing all the pieces together from His original design. Jesus said, “If you seek me, you will find me.” It is also said, “To seek him with all of your heart and all of your soul.”

Acts 17:24-28

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

Prayer

Heavenly Father and creator God, you formed us out of nothing, and we chose to fall into darkness. Thank you that through the light of your Son, the full measure of your design for us is revealed. May the Christ Jesus be always in my sight and on my heart. Amen.
